If you’re looking for something different yet relaxaing to do with friends and family, WAXI should be on your list of things to do in Manchester.
WAXI is a water taxi service that takes you on a relaxed boat ride through areas of Manchester that not many people have seen.
The service takes you from it’s Castlefield stop in Manchester’s city centre to destinations such as Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium, the Trafford Centre, Media City and Spinningfields. You can see a list of current routes on their booking page.
It’s not exactly the fastest mode of transport, but you wouldn’t want it any other way. Having said that, it may actually be a faster (and more scenic) route to Old Trafford on match days, but don’t hold us to that.
Journey times from Castlefield to Old Trafford is estimated to take around 30 minutes, whilst a trip to the Trafford Centre would take about an hour.
We love everything about WAXI and what it represents. A relatively new company that sprung up late 2016, it utilises the canal network that has existed for centuries. WAXI not only breathes new life into the canals, but it also adds a touch of charm to Manchester and what it has to offer.
As a tourist to the city, it adds a different perspective to the city. What seems like a concrete jungle from the outside, WAXI shows us differently by taking us through a journey on its river and canals that showcases the city to be much more than urban city living.
As a resident of Manchester, this is one of those things that reminds us why we love the city. We fully recommend you take a journey on WAXI and discover a different side of Manchester; redefining what the city is all about.
